First, i am concerned because i have plans to go to Iowa. Does this paint a target on back when I do visit China?? Jokes aside. There are a number of Chinese backed projects throughout Latin America. This latest project is not unusual.

When the American government shows up they ask for favors. When the Chinese show up they hand out money. Btw I feel like this project will be brought up the next time Peru oust for corruption..

That is correct, but if I were to defend the US for a second, I would say "there is no such thing as a free lunch". At least the Americans are transparent about it.

Tbh, I’m always a little surprised that China’s Belt and Road program doesn’t get more headlines. I know infrastructure and Game Theory rarely get clicks, but still…

It's definitely a topic that is mostly covered by the Financial Times and the Wall Street Journal.

But one fact about the BRI is that it didn't seem to work. Beijing has quietly stopped funding new projects and it seems they are content to just let current projects complete and then shift away from that program.

Where did you hear that? It's alive and well in my part of the world and there are plans for a Kunning to South East Asia link too. Maybe they are changing directions ?
